1. strict是形容詞,意為“嚴(yán)格的,嚴(yán)厲的”,可作表語也可作定語。如:
Our head teacher is very strict, but we still need many strict rules.
我們的班主任非常嚴(yán)格,但是我們還需要許多嚴(yán)格的制度。
2. 我們常見短語be strict with sb.,意為“對某人嚴(yán)格要求”,以及be strict in (doing) sth., 意為“對(做)某事嚴(yán)格要求”。如:
Mr. Smith is very strict with his children.
史密斯先生對他的孩子們要求十分嚴(yán)格。
We should be strict in (doing) our work.
對工作我們應(yīng)該嚴(yán)格要求。
look up
1. 表示“(在詞典、參考書等中)查閱……”。若賓語是名詞,常放在look up之后。若賓語是代詞,則要放在look up之間。如:
It is a good habit to look up new words in a dictionary.
在詞典里查生詞是一個良好的習(xí)慣。
If you forget my number, you can look it up in the phone book.

2. 表示“向上看”。如:
